Ramzi Hamady is an equity partner at Hawkes Quam, LLC, where he practices family law exclusively. With nearly a decade of experience, Ramzi has developed a strong reputation as a thoughtful strategist, skilled negotiator, and formidable courtroom advocate. He represents clients in divorce, custody, parent-time, complex financial disputes, post-decree proceedings, and other family law matters.
Ramzi understands that successful family law representation requires more than a single approach. He is known for resolving difficult cases through skilled negotiation, mediation, and creative problem-solving. Others require decisive litigation and a willingness to take difficult issues through trial. Ramzi is equally comfortable in both settings. He views trial as a last resort, but when it is necessary, he has experience trying virtually every type of family law issue.
Clients turn to Ramzi for candid advice, meticulous preparation, and steady advocacy during some of the most consequential periods of their lives. He works closely with each client to identify the issues that matter most, understand the practical and long-term consequences of available options, and develop a strategy tailored to the client’s circumstances. His approach is direct but measured, recognizing that strong advocacy does not require unnecessary hostility and that the best outcome is one that allows the client to move forward with stability and confidence.
Before joining Hawkes Quam, Ramzi was a shareholder at Ray Quinney & Nebeker, one of Utah’s largest and most established law firms, where he practiced in the firm’s Family Law and White-Collar Crime sections. He also served as Chair of the firm’s Minority Lawyers Group and Co-Chair of its Next Generation Group. Ramzi was also a member of the firm’s recruiting team, where he helped identify and recruit legal talent. His experience at Ray Quinney & Nebeker further developed his ability to manage sophisticated litigation, substantial financial issues, and cases requiring both strategic judgment and careful attention to detail.
Earlier in his career, Ramzi served as a trial attorney with the Utah Juvenile Defender Attorneys, where he represented minors in juvenile court proceedings. That work placed him in the courtroom early and often and gave him meaningful experience handling contested hearings, trials, expert testimony, and cases involving significant consequences for young people and their families. He also practiced with JLJ Law Group and The Salt Lake Lawyers as a family law litigator.
Ramzi is actively involved in Utah’s legal community. He serves as an At-Large Member of the Utah State Bar’s Family Law Executive Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion. He previously served as President of the Utah Minority Bar Association and as a member of the ACLU of Utah’s Legal Advisory Panel. Through these roles, Ramzi has worked to strengthen Utah’s legal profession, expand access and opportunity within the profession, and contribute to the continued development of family law practice in the state.
Ramzi received his J.D. from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to Honorable Judge Michele M. Christiansen Forster of the Utah Court of Appeals, a BioLaw Fellow with the S.J. Quinney Center for Law and Biomedical Sciences, and a legal intern with the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center. He earned his B.A. in Economics, with a minor in Political Science, from the University of California, Irvine.
At the center of Ramzi’s practice is a commitment to purposeful advocacy: understanding what matters most to the client, preparing thoroughly, pursuing reasonable solutions where possible, and standing ready to litigate when necessary.

Such a Great Lawyer
As my title suggests, Justin is a really great lawyer! I recently went through a divorce with included the custody of my two young children. I am sure you can imagine this was not an easy time for me. Being the father, and with my children both being so young, I was extremely worried I would be forced into minimal custody. Justin was always calm and was quick to answer my questions and reassure me that was not going to happen. He was always there when I called and he helped me through this difficult time. He was not about to give up on me or allow me to give up on myself and he diligently stood for what I wanted. In the end, I received much more custody than I was originally offered and the opportunity to try for more when my kids are a bit older. Although I will never get as much time as I would like, which is seeing them everyday, Justin's help was invaluable during the case and I cannot thank him enough. I would recommend Justin, along with anyone at his firm, to anyone I know who may be going through the same issues. It is a tough time for everyone involved and it definitely helps having someone like Justin on your side!

Great Attorney
It was a pleasure working with Justin. He is very knowledgeable and made the divorce process as smooth and easy as can be. Justin was very informative and was able to answer all the questions that I had. His rates were fair but that did not affect his level of professionalism or quality of work. I highly recommend Justin.
